Mother Mash - London

I read about a restaurant in London that built their menu essentially around a variety of mashed potatoes.  Mashed potatoes are by far one of my favorite foods and definitely a top comfort food in my book, so, I was determined to find this gem.  Thankfully, our hotel was just a short walk away from Carnaby Street and that shopping area, so, Mother Mash was a short walk.  We ate here on two separate occasions.  Once for dinner and once for breakfast.  Both meals were very satisfying and tasty.  The pies were delicious and the "mash" would be hard to beat.  I had the classic mash and their potatoes (all the potatoes we had in London actually) had a bit of sweetness to them.  My husband tried one of the mashes with cheese, scallions, etc... He also let them use the gravy liberally, but I had mine on the side.  I like my mash plain and simple!

For breakfast, they even use the potatoes for the classic bubble and squeak dish.  It was something we wanted to try while we were in the UK, but found it hard to find on most menus. We've been trying to recreate it at home and we're getting pretty close.  For breakfast though, my husband's favorite was their bacon.  The bacon in the UK is different and has so much more flavor.  If anyone knows how to get some in the US, please let me know!
